Find: Live in the sunshine

I have quotes scattered around my house – stuck to the fridge door, framed on bookshelves, tucked between the pages of books. If words make me feel something, I want to remember them.

This quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson is one of my favourites. I’m happiest by the sea, with salty air against my cheeks and sand beneath my feet. This quote brings that feeling alive.

Quote: 5 important questions

I was flat on my back at the end of a yoga class – the very best part of any yoga class, I think we can all agree – when I first heard these questions. Such a simple concept – the kind of thing I’m always telling my kids. Speak nicely! Clean that up! Put some damn clothes on! Like so much of the great advice I dole out to my kids, though, I don’t always follow it myself.

I love this quote because it reminds me to be kind, to be helpful, to be positive. At least most of the time.

Read: The Shock of the Fall

This book broke my heart.

I didn’t really know what I was in for when I picked up a copy of The Shock of the Fall. I liked the cover – shallow, sure, but a book jacket makes a big impression on me – and I’m always drawn to stories about family dynamics, about the moments that stitch us together and the ones that tear us apart.

Find: Up, up and away…

I absolutely love the stick-on kids’ wall decals from The Land of Nod.

My oldest daughter has a decal of a heart-shaped hot air balloon above her bed, while her little sister has a sweet one of a woodland parade. The fox is carrying a banner that says “YAY,” so when I tuck her into bed each evening she says, “Goodnight, Yay Parade!”
